Retz Hauptlatz - on the hiking trail E 8 with the yellow marking in the direction of Hl. Stein - keep left at the road junction in the direction of Mitterretzbach-Hardegg - across the old village green - Hl. Stein - Hnanice - past Hotel Vinice to the Dyje River - over the Sealsfield Stone (Sealsfieldův kámen) to the foot of Znojmo Castle - Znojmo old town - return by train.

Let's go - preferably early in the morning - at the first yellow marker on the main square in Retz, passing the Verderberhaus and Znaimer Tor in the direction of the Holy Stone. Route E 8 is marked throughout, but sometimes the markings (such as a yellow dot on a stone) are not particularly conspicuous. This means: have a close look!
At the road junction in the direction of Mitterretzbach-Hardegg, keep left and walk across the old meadow. After about 1 hour of hiking through the vineyards, you reach the Holy Stone, where both a wine tavern and a panoramic terrace with picturesque views await the hikers. From here you can already see Hnanice and the Vinice Hotel in the distance, where you descend to the Dyje River, always following the yellow markings of the E 8.
Via the Sealsfield Stone (Sealsfieldův kámen), which offers a magnificent view, you continue along the Dyje River to the foot of the Znojmo Castle, from there it's a steep climb to the old town. After your strenuous exercise, lean comfortably against the parapet near the Rotunda of St. Catherine to enjoy the view of Znojmo, the impressive "City of Towers".
It's best to end the day in Znojmo and then take the train back to Retz or Vienna.
