Trail directions

This cycle path connects the two sister towns of Hardegg and Vranov. Although only separated by six kilometres as the crow flies, the Thaya and its meanders, which have dug deep into the rock, have to be bypassed over a wide area and numerous ascents have to be overcome. The perfect challenge for athletic cyclists.

The route starts at the National Park House, from where it follows the National Park Thayatal cycle path to Čížov in the Czech Republic. This also includes a detour to the Hardegger Warte, which offers a magnificent view over the little town.

At the end of Čížov, the trail turns left towards Vranov, passes through Lesná (turn left in the village and follow the sign with a bicycle symbol) and finally reaches the reservoir and the town of Vranov via the Czech Dyje Bridge. On the way there, another viewpoint can be reached via a small diversions.

From the bridge, turn right in the direction of Vranov Castle. The first kilometre to the castle is relatively steep uphill, so it's important to pace yourself. It's worth a visit!

Continue in the direction of Podmýče, from where you turn left into the field path opposite the entrance to the village (look out for the road sign "Felling"), pass the "green" border a little further on and then reach the village square of Felling. Here, a visit to Austria's only mother-of-pearl crushing plant is a must.

From Felling, take the road back to Hardegg and the starting point, the National Park House. Tip: On a hot day, the best way to finish off the cycling tour is to cool off in the Hardegg forest pool.
