National Park Director

During his childhood, Christian Übl spent numerous summers at the family's weekend house in Hardegg. This meant he was able to establish a close bond with nature and the people of the Thaya Valley at a very early age. These experiences were very formative, which is why the Retzer decided to study biology in Vienna after graduating from a business academy. Christian Übl was leading excursions through the Thayatal way back in the 1990s and worked on the planning of the protected area for several months. Since the national park administration was founded in 1999, he has been responsible for educational programmes, natural area management and research, and since 2017 he has been Managing Director of the National Park.
