Retz Region, Thayatal and Partner Businesses

Information for visitors

Hospitality in the area around the National Park

Logo Retzer Land
Not only the National Park, but also regional initiatives, local producers, restaurants, guesthouses and other places of accommodation are concerned about visitors. The following list is only an overview of a few of the offers available.

Retz Region (Retzer Land)

Together with Hardegg, the smallest town in Austria, the National Park Thayatal is part of the Retz Region. Six communes at the border between the Wein- and Waldviertel areas constitute this region characterized by "enjoying wine”, "celebrating festivals”, "cycling” and "National Park Thayatal”. The communes of Hardegg, Pulkau, Retz, Retzbach, Schrattenthal, Zellerndorf as well as some businesses have formed an association aiming at improving quality in the region and showing off its products.

Cyclists in the Retz Region
One of the highlights in the Retz Region is the traditional pumpkin festival at the end of October.

You will find information on accommodation, good food, attractive events and excursion destinations at Retzer Land (Retz Region).

Inter-National-Park Region Thayatal

Rushing Thaya
The area around the National Park is full of big and small treasures. The quiet area at the open border can excite as well as appease. It conveys pristine nature but also impressive testimonies of human culture. The area along the Thaya stretches from Waidhofen/Thaya to Retz through Dobersberg, Kautzen, Raabs, Drosendorf and Hardegg. The river landscape, but also the border constituted by the Thaya for centuries, are distinctive features. Today many picturesque villages, castles, mansions, monasteries, mills and river baths attest to its history.
